Sou’ Wester Artist Residency 2021
At the tail end of The Pandemic, Chris and I spent a week in November in the quiet of the Sou’Wester Lodge on the Long Beach Peninsula in Seaview, WA. In the solace of the coastal air and this sweet lodge, I explored smaller illustrations within the scope of a graphic novella.
While I draw at home and in my studio every day, there is something truly special about working without the typical distractions of daily life. We cooked meals, walked on the beach, and listened to music. But I found more freedom to make mistakes, to try one approach to an image, and then quickly move into a different direction.
This was a richly soothing time for me.
